Silk scarf

Silk scarf with a detail from the House of Nobility’s large plafond painting

The 105-square-metre ceiling painting of the Carolinian court painter David Klöcker Ehrenstrahl in the Hall of Nobility is called The Council of Virtues (1675). It portrays and glorifies the Sweden of the great power era.

In this detail you will find Suecia – Mother Svea – sitting among the clouds surrounded by personifications of virtues and the three crowns of the Swedish national coat of arms. The goddess of eternity holds her star wreath and the goddess of fame trumpets Sweden’s greatness in the world.
