These descendancy charts provide a valuable source of information for genealogists and for historical research purposes. Thanks to the work being carried out today, this treasure can continue to be preserved for future generations. Our genealogy department oversees the regular updating of the charts, research and archival records, and is responsible for providing certain guidance and information to noble family members, history buffs and other interested parties.<\/p>\n<p>Our descendancy charts and content in the Swedish Peerage Book are based on publicly available data. The House of Nobility complies with the GDPR.<\/p>\n<h2>What are genealogy and heraldry?<\/h2>\n<p>Genealogy is the study of family descent. Heraldry is the study of the use, design and regulation of hereditary symbols on armorial bearings. Genealogy and heraldry are important historical sciences.<\/p>\n<h2>Why is the House of Nobility involved in genealogy?<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the historical value of preserving genealogies that include more than 330,000 people spanning the Middle Ages to the present day, there are two practical reasons. The Riddarhus Decree stipulates that noble family members have the right, under certain conditions, to represent at the assembly of nobles every third year. It is therefore the duty of the executive board to keep track of who the family head is and which family members are eligible to participate. Prior to each assembly, a register of living family members \u2013 Swedish Peerage Book (<em>Adelskalendern<\/em>) \u2013 and a list of family heads are therefore drawn up.
